plan maintenance
The KIPDA Hazard Mitigation Plan is updated annually. KIPDA will hold a annual meeting and formal plan maintenance discussion with the KIPDA Hazard Mitigation Plan Committee that will also be open to the public. All feedback and input from the public, committee members, or FEMA is recorded and tracked.
Long-term
KIPDA has transitioned our 2021 Hazard Mitigation Plan to an online format. By reformatting the plan into a website, users can easily navigate and browse its components. The transition to online planning will allow for consistent plan maintenance, making it easier to quickly update mitigation strategies, data, and update the plan annually.
A forward-looking approach is crucial to maintaining a relevant Hazard Mitigation Plan. Previously, hazard mitigation practices were utilized in response to disasters that had already reeked havoc on communities. As we move into the future, the goals and strategies of hazard mitigation practices are to prepare for natural disasters and hazards in advance, minimizing negative or harmful impacts, and breaking the cycle of reoccurring destruction.
By following the plan maintenance steps below, the KIPDA Hazard Mitigation Plan remains an effective and relevant tool for mitigating hazards in our community.
- Monitoring status of mitigation actions in the HMP
- Periodically evaluating the HMP
- Updating the HMP as new data is published and mitigation strategies progress.
- Incorporating the HMP in a multitude of other regional plans and regional planning efforts.
- Ongoing public participation through the Hazard Mitigatin Planning Portal and Hazard Mitigation Feedback Map.
Community members have been involved during all phases of the 2021 Hazard Mitigation Plan update process. Another benefit of transitioning the HMP to an online resource, is the ability to continuously receive public input.
KIPDA residents can access the Hazard Mitigation Feedback Map at any point in time. The Feedback Map will remain live in between annual updates. The Feedback Map allows residents in our region to report local hazards and natural disaster events that may otherwise go unreported, and enables KIPDA to compile localized information and point locations for future planning effort.
