County & City Breakdown

The KIPDA Hazard Mitigation plan encompasses Bullitt, Henry, Oldham, Shelby, Spencer, and Trimble counties, and the cities within. Brief descriptions and demographic breakdowns of these KIPDA counties and their cities are outlined below.

Bullitt County

Bullitt County is located in close proximity to the Louisville metropolitan area, but with a rural atmosphere. Bullitt County has a population of 82,217 people, with 24,385 disabled persons, 5,265 elderly persons, and 6,800 minority residents. Bullitt County is governed by a Fiscal Court made up of the County Judge Executive and 4 magistrates, who represent the 4 districts in the county.  

Please note that because Bullitt County’s cities have low populations and occupy only a slight portion of the county’s overall acreage, the county is the predominant actor for mitigation efforts. 

The City of Fox Chase has a population of 436.

The City of Hebron Estates has a population of 1,014.

The City of Hillview has a population of 8,622. 

The City of Hunters Hollow has a population of 324.

The City of Lebanon Junction has a population of 1,746.

The City of Mount Washington has a population of 18,090.

The City of Pioneer Village has a population of 2,671.

The City of Shepherdsvillle has a population of 14,201.

Henry County

Henry County is located at the center of the ‘Golden Triangle’ – within an hour drive to Louisville, Lexington, and Cincinnati. Henry County is a county rich in agriculture and farmland. Henry County has a population of 15,678 people, with 5,701 disabled persons, 2,705 elderly persons, and 1,463 minority residents. Henry County is governed by a Fiscal Court made up of the County Judge Executive and 6 magistrates, who represent the 6 districts in the county. 

Please note that because Henry County’s cities contain such a small proportion of the county’s overall population, most mitigation measures are handled by the county. 

The City of Campbellsburg has a population of 836. 

The City of Eminence has a population of 2,705. 

The City of New Castle has a population of 884. 

The City of Pleasureville has a population of 779. 

The City of Smithfield has a population of 124. 

Oldham County

Oldham County is located in north-central Kentucky, 20 miles northeast of Louisville and southwest of Trimble County. Oldham County has a population of 67,607 people, with 13,565 disabled persons, 10,021 elderly persons, and 6,157 minority residents. Oldham County is governed by a Fiscal Court made up of the County Judge Executive and 8 magistrates, who represent the 8 districts in the county. 

Please note that because Oldham County’s cities occupy only a slight portion of the county’s acreage, the county is the predominant actor for mitigation efforts. 

The City of Crestwood has a population of 6,183. 

The City of Goshen has a population of 892. 

The City of La Grange has a population of 10,067.

The City of Orchard Grass Hill has a population of 1,536.

The City of Pewee Valley has a population of 1,588.

The City of Prospect has a population of 4,592.

The City of River Bluff has a population of 436.

Shelby County

Shelby County is situated between Louisville and Lexington in north-central Kentucky. Shelby County has a population of 48,065 people, with 11,803 disabled persons, 7,242 elderly persons, and 6,900 minority residents. Shelby County is governed by a Fiscal Court made up of the County Judge Executive and 7 magistrates, who represent the 7 districts in the county.

Please note that because Shelby County’s cities occupy only a slight portion of the county’s acreage, the county is the predominant actor for mitigation efforts. 

 

The City of Shelbyville has a population of 17,282.

The City of Simpsonville has a population of 2,990. 

Spencer County

Spencer County is located in the southern part of the KIPDA region, in the heart of the bluegrass. It is centrally located between the cities of Louisville, Shelbyville, Bardstown, and Lexington. Spencer County has a population of 19,490 people, with 4,723 disabled persons, 2,517 elderly persons, and 1,580 minority residents. Spencer County is governed by a Fiscal Court made up of the County Judge Executive and 5 magistrates, who represent the 5 districts in the county. 

Please note that because Spencer County’s cities contain such a small proportion of the county’s overall population, most mitigation measures are handled by the county. 

The City of Taylorsville has a population of 1,256. 

Trimble County

Trimble County lies along the Ohio River, about 40 miles upstream from Louisville and about 75 miles downstream from Cincinnati, Ohio. Trimble County is a small, rural county, rich in agriculture and history. Trimble County has a population of 8,474 people, with 1,890 disabled persons, 1,465 elderly persons, and 482 minority residents. Trimble County is governed by a Fiscal Court made up of the County Judge Executive and 4 magistrates, who represent the 4 districts in the county.

Please note that because Trimble County’s cities contain such a small proportion of the county’s overall population, most mitigation measures are handled by the county. 

The City of Bedford has a population of 526. 

The City of Milton has a population of 590.
